What to Expect at Your First Assisted Stretch Session
First time booking an assisted stretch session? Here is a full walkthrough, from the phone call that books it to the last stretch on the table, so nothing catches you off guard.
Stretch Appointments Are Made by Phone Only
Assisted stretching is still new to a lot of people in San Diego. It is common to wonder what to wear, what actually happens on the table, and whether it will hurt. This guide walks through a first visit for assisted stretching in San Diego at True Chiropractic in Kearny Mesa, from the first phone call to the drive home.
Before You Book Your First Visit
Every new stretch client starts the same way, with a 20 minute evaluation for $30. This visit is shorter than a regular session on purpose. Kyle, our stretch therapist, uses the time to see how you move, find where you are tightest, and figure out whether ongoing stretch therapy at our Kearny Mesa clinic makes sense for your goals.
Because stretch appointments are phone only, you will call (858) 279-7300 to set up your evaluation rather than book it online. That call is also the right time to mention any injuries, surgeries, or areas that feel more sensitive than the rest of your body. Kyle wants that information before you arrive, not after.
What to Wear and What to Bring
You do not need to prepare much. Just show up ready to move.
What to Wear
- Athletic clothes you can move freely in, like leggings, shorts, or joggers
- A t-shirt or tank top that is not too loose
- Sneakers are fine. Kyle will tell you if a stretch works better barefoot
- Skip belts, zippers, or anything stiff around your waist and legs
What to Bring
- A water bottle
- A short list of injuries or surgeries, even old ones
- Nothing else. You stay in your workout clothes the whole time
Still unsure about something? Call ahead and ask. Kyle would rather answer a quick question than have you show up unsure.
What Happens When You Arrive
You will check in at the front desk like any other visit to True Chiropractic. If it is your first time in the building, you may fill out a short form about your health history and what you are hoping to get out of stretching.
From there, Kyle meets you in the stretch area. You stay in your clothes for the entire visit, the same as you would at the gym.
What Kyle Does During the Evaluation
Kyle starts by watching how you move. He may ask you to reach for your toes, turn your shoulders, or shift your weight from side to side. This shows him where your body already moves well and where it is holding tight.
From there, he moves into hands on work. He positions your arms, legs, or hips and holds each stretch at the edge of your range longer than you could hold it on your own. Your job is simple: breathe, relax the muscle he is working, and tell him if anything feels sharp instead of tight.
By the end of the 20 minutes, Kyle will tell you what he found and what a regular stretch schedule could look like for your goals, whether that means loosening up tight hips from a desk job or moving better for a weekend round of golf.

What It Feels Like
Assisted stretching should feel like a strong pull, not pain. You will feel tension build as Kyle holds a position, then relief when he lets go. Spots that have been tight for a while, like hips, hamstrings, or shoulders, can feel intense the first time. That is normal.
Sharp pain is not normal and is not the goal. Tell Kyle right away if anything moves from a deep stretch into pain. He will ease off and work around it instead.
After Your First Session
Some people leave feeling looser right away. Others notice the biggest change the next day, once the muscle has had time to settle into its new range. A little soreness is common, similar to how a workout feels the day after, and it usually fades within a day or two.
Drink water and move normally for the rest of the day. One session will not undo years of tightness, and that is fine. Most people see the real change with regular visits. Common Questions
No. Most people who come in are stiff, not flexible, and that is exactly who assisted stretching is for. Kyle works from where your body is right now, not where you think it should be.
It should not. Expect a strong, deep pull as Kyle holds a stretch, then relief when he lets go. If anything moves from a deep stretch into sharp pain, tell him right away and he will ease off.
Athletic clothes you can move in, like leggings, shorts, or joggers with a t-shirt or tank top. Sneakers are fine. Skip belts, zippers, or anything stiff around your waist and legs.
The first visit is a 20 minute stretch evaluation for $30. It is available once, for new stretch clients only, and is shorter than a regular session on purpose.
No. The evaluation stands on its own. If you want to continue, stretch appointments are made by phone, so call (858) 279-7300 and Kyle will help you find a schedule that fits your goals.
